Here Are 14 Polls Showing Americans Don't Want War With Iran

This post is simple: it is an ongoing list of polls showing that a majority of the American people are opposed to taking military action against Iran.

All the polls are taken within the last calendar year of this post publishing (June 20 2025). This will be an ongoing list as more polls come out to show how unpopular a war with Iran would be.

The Economist/YouGov Poll, Conducted From June 13 - 16, 2025 (1,512 U.S. Adult Citizens)

Highlights:

  • 60% of Americans are against the U.S. military getting involved in the conflict between Israel and Iran, versus only 16% who are in favor (a net 44% against).
  • All 24 sub audiences answered a majority against the conflict between Israel and Iran.

Highlights:

  • 85% said they don't want war with Iran, versus 5% who do.

CNN/SSRS Redefining Research Poll, Conducted From June 22-23, 2025 (1,512 U.S. Adult Citizens)

Highlights:

  • 56% disapprove of the airstrikes versus 44% that approve.
  • 6 out of 10 are worried that the strikes will increase the Iranian threat to the US.
  • 58% think the strikes made Iran more of a thread to the US, versus 27% who think it will less of a threat.

President Donald Trump’s decision to launch airstrikes against Iran is broadly unpopular with Americans, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS after the strikes.

Yahoo News / YouGov Poll, Conducted From June 26-30, 2025 (1,597 U.S. Adult Citizens)

Highlights:

  • 49% think the strikes do more harm than good, versus 31% who think it will do more good than harm, including 77% of Democrats and 55% of Independents doing more harm than good.
  • 42% say they disapproved of the strikes versus 41% who said they approved, with Democrats (71%) and Independents (50%) both having majority disapprove.
  • 54% disapprove of Trump's handling of Israel-Iran war v.s. 37% who approve

Washington Post Poll, Conducted From June 18, 2025 (1,008 U.S. Adult Citizens)

Highlights:

  • 82% are some degree of concerned about full-scale war with Iran (39% "very" and 43% "somewhat").
  • 45% oppose U.S. military launching airstrikes against Iran over its nuclear program versus 25% who support (a net +20 against).

Fox News Poll Conducted From June 13 - 16 2025 (1,003 U.S. Adult Citizens)

Highlights:

  • 60% of Democrats and 64% of Independents disapprove of Israel's decision to launch military strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities (versus 32% who support it). Republicans support the decision at 73%
  • 59% of all respondents think Israel's strikes will make the world a more dangerous place. Specifically 77% of Independents and 74% of Democrats.

Highlights:

  • 53% oppose possible U.S. military action against Iran versus 36% who are in favor (net -17%)
  • 62% support a new nuclear agreement between the U.S. and Iran, versus 24% who oppose.
  • 49% are in favor of Diplomatic negotiations as the most successful tactic to prevent Iran from securing a nuclear weapon, versus 22% who support war/military operations.

Highlights:

  • 69% supported a negotiated agreement limiting Iran's nuclear program to peaceful ends, versus 14% who are in favor of military action (a net difference of 55%).
  • 69% of respondents want neither Israel or Iran to have nuclear weapons.

Highlights:

  • 60% oppose sending US troops to destroy Iranian nuclear facilities versus 35% who are in favor.
  • This is a 14% decrease versus 2021 where 49% were in favor of sending troops
  • Political Party Breakout: 73% of Democrats, 71% of Independents, 48% of Republicans
